Wedding in Pirin Mountain organised by SPA Hotel Villa Roka with the assistance of the PicnicSPA Hotel Villa Roca is organizing traditional Bulgarian weddings with the kind assistance of the Picnic located in Chalin Valog area of Pirin Mountain near Bansko.
The idea of this initiative is to give the wedding couples the option of a truly traditional Bulgarian way to celebrate their love.
The concept of these wedding is based heavily on the local wedding traditions.

| Welcoming of the newly wedded couple – includes the following traditions and rituals: |

| - Stealing of the bride the bride is stolen by a man on a horse, who takes her the groom. |

| - Welcoming of the bride with bread The bride is welcomed by her mother in law with three breads. One is carried under the left arm and the other two under the right. The ritual is showing that it is difficult for the young bride to feed the family. The bride kisses the hand of her mother in law who is giving her a bite of Turkish delight for a sweet married life. The mother in law is giving the bride towels and aprons in order to make the domestic work of the bride easier. |

| - Getting the bride’s dowry The bride’s dowry is placed in a horse driven cart, guarded by the male guests from her family. The groom family is trying to buy the dowry and the cart. All guests receive small meat balls and feta cheese. |

| - Spilling of water The bride pours water in a jug from the spring. The women from her side are around her together with singing women from the program. The bride kicks the jug three times and on the third spills the water. The ritual symbolize the wish of the bride to leave the family and create one of her own. |

| - Untangling gold coins from the bride’s hair The groom is untangling gold coins from the bride’s hair thus declaring that he would like to spend his life with her. The bride gives him a small gift. |

| - Cutting the banitsa(traditional Bulgarian pastry with cheese) The women from the groom side are asking the bride where is the end of the banitsa and ask for a piece. The bride changes the knife with an axe, cuts the most overcooked piece that and gives it to her mother in law. The ritual shows the independence of the bride and her willingness to stand her ground in the married life. |
